Cannes 2026: A New Palme d’Or Winner and the Festival’s Current Direction
According to the official results of the 79th Festival de Cannes, the Palme d’Or went to Cristian Mungiu’s “FJORD,” while the Grand Prix was awarded to Andrey Zvyagintsev’s “MINOTAURE.”
The Best Director prize was shared by Javier Calvo & Javier Ambrossi and Paweł Pawlikowski, bringing different European filmmaking traditions into the same awards conversation.
Prizes cannot summarize an entire selection. The longer-term effect is shaped by what happens after Cannes: distribution deals, national releases and continued critical circulation.
