Venice 2026: How the Immersive Selection Expands the Boundaries of Cinema

La Biennale announced that Venice Immersive 2026 will present 68 projects from 26 countries. That scale shows how major festivals now treat XR, virtual reality and interactive work as a substantial creative field.

Immersive projects create a different relationship with the audience. Direction of gaze, movement through space and interaction can become part of the narrative itself.

Its importance is not to replace conventional cinema, but to create a prestigious laboratory for exploring how directing, image, sound and editing can operate in new environments.
